Introducing our volunteers

SYCNA is led by a small group of volunteers who are committed to providing netball opportunities across the South Yorkshire Region

Sharon Green

Chair

Netball has been a lifelong passion , having been in the sport for 40 years. I have been a volunteer for many years, both as a previous League Secretary and Committee member. Netball participation has grown over the years in South Yorkshire, and I am keen to see this continue.
As a County we are actively working to ensure that those who want to participate in Netball can do so either as a volunteer, Coach or as an Umpire. The County Committee want to ensure that Netball continues to thrive in South Yorkshire by promoting the sport to as many people as possible.

I have been fortunate to be able to continue being involved in Netball and have made many friends along the way, which is one thing that comes from participating in a team sport. Netball has been part of my life for many years, having started in the sport from School and then setting up and joining the County League from 17.

Marlene Ellis

Secretary

Netball has been part of my life for 40 years. I have been part of the county for 30 years, playing, umpiring and volunteering.
It is great to see how netball has developed over the last 30 years providing more opportunities for both juniors and adults of all levels, which has inspired me to become more involved as a volunteer.

Rachael Radford

Treasurer / Competition Working Group Lead

I have been involved in netball as a volunteer for over 25 years, first getting involved when I returned to England from university in Australia. I am currently an A award umpire and have for the last few years been lucky enough to umpire in the English Netball Superleague. I am a Umpire Tutor, Assessor and Mentor.

I believe passionately in giving back to the county that has given me so much opportunity to access netball since first getting into the sport during secondary school. Away from the netball court I work in HR .

In 2020 I qualified as a Mental Health First Aider, which is something I am also passionate about to ensure that we encourage people to talk, as its only through open discussion and conversation that we will reduce the stigma attached to and associated with mental health and mental wellbeing.

Lindsey Ball

Umpire Mentoring Programme Lead

To say I love netball is an understatement! I have played the game for almost 40 years. I am a qualified L2 coach, B award umpire, a tutor, assessor and mentor. I have helped to set up and run Back to Netball and Netball Now sessions in Bassetlaw where I live, I have helped start up Bassetlaw Belles NC. I have mentored in South Yorkshire for the last 3 years.
I was a police office in the Metropolitan Police Force for 30 years, retiring in April 2014. Apart from netball I love walking my two dogs, a bit of gardening, TV and Music. I am also a DARE Officer and help to educate primary school children about making safe and healthy decisions in relation to drugs, alcohol, smoking, knives etc. So in reality I'm not really retired I'm busier than ever just without the shift work

Anna Mitchell

Umpire coordinator - Competition

I have played netball for over 50 years and my love of the sport eventually led me down the officiating path a few years ago. Then I joined Wickersley NC and achieved my L1 coaching about in 2019.
Having retired I now have more time for volunteering, to encourage children and adults to experience this great sport at all levels

Lee Davis

SY Performance Pathway Lead

Where to begin.. My name is Lee Davis and I have enjoyed my life-long passion to play, umpire, coach, volunteer, organise, and generally “give back”, “pay it forward” and support my netballing family.
Whilst enjoying all of netball, my focus today is coaching and my personal coach development. Working with grassroots and performance athletes who wish to progress to be the best they can be within my netball club, and alongside working within the England Netball Pathway at U13/U15/U17 within Yorkshire & Humberside is super rewarding (“Peng” to you youngsters), with more learnings to come.

Fundamentally, my netball pleasure comes in two forms:
 • from witnessing progression, in whatever form it presents itself in, and being able to provide the best possible offering to my coaching and wider team, performance framework, and the athletes by always looking for self-improvement, and
• from volunteering within Netball which gives me a chance to meet some great people and “pay it forward”.

Outside of coaching netball, I have a supportive family who fulfil me, I am employed full time within Finance & Human Resources for a family run Orthodontics business who nurture my professional development and I’m a lover of dogs, living life, and being me.

Overall, I am honoured to play an influential role in all three of my families and looking forward to Performance Netball Growth in South Yorkshire.
