Do you have an ambition to join the Officiating Family?

England Netball's  Umpiring and Technical Officiating courses have been designed to help you to develop the skills you need to become a qualified Umpire or Technical Official.

On this page you will find the opportunities that best suit your needs whether it ends with you officiating at a Netball World Cup or achieving your own personal goals to support Netball where you live.

This will be a journey you are going to really enjoy and one where you will meet fantastic people, all whilst enabling our fantastic sport to be played.

Into Officiating Course

The Into Officiating Course is the first step on the officiating pathway. It will help you to understand the basic rules of the game, as well as cover some of the basic positioning and movement required to enable you to ‘whistle well’ whilst being an umpire.

The course is designed for people new to umpiring and new to the rules of the game.

The virtual sessions form the first part of the Into Officiating Award with a successful 15 minute practical assessment (organised by your member county) required to gain the full qualification.

Course Overview Minimum Age: 13

Duration: Two (2) virtual sessions each two hours in duration – 4 hours in total

C Award Course

This course is the next step on the umpire pathway for those holders of the Into Officiating Award. It’s perfect for those of you aspiring to umpire at a higher level within your County.

The course builds on the knowledge you learnt on your Into Officiating course and introduces the basics of Contact/Contest and Advantage. Who is this course for?

If you want to umpire in local and/or county leagues on a regular basis

*Must be 14 years of age before taking the final practical assessment (see pathway for further information)

** Must hold the full Into Officiating Award.

What will I need to do?
✔Attend both virtual sessions of the designated course, please note that we do not allow learners to move from course to course.
✔Have access to a computer and the internet to be able to access the virtual sessions.
✔Be prepared to practice umpiring netball before attending a Practical Assessments
✔Be a full member of England Netball.

Course Overview Minimum Age: 13 years and above. Learners must be 14 years of age before taking the final practical assessment (see the pathway for further information) 

Please note you will not be able to book this course without the Into Officiating Award. 

Duration: The course consists of two 1.5 hour virtual sessions – 3 hours in total and a 30 minute Written Assessment included in the course price

B Award Course

The B Award course is designed for those umpires who wish to take the next step on the umpire pathway and officiate matches at a regional level. This blended course will build on current knowledge, introduce additional techniques and provide learner’s with examples and exercises in a practical setting to develop their performances on court.
